The Ecology of Ottawa: We Are Connected
# of participants: 8-15
Description:
Did you know that…
•  Ottawa has more farmland than any other Canadian city?
•  More than 60% of the wetlands originally found in the     Ottawa area have been lost?
•  Roads constitute 21% of land use within our developed urban area?
•  It costs Ottawa taxpayers $90/tonne to put waste in     landfills, and $44/tonne to recycle it?

Come and learn about our land, our water, our air, our energy and our waste. Understand how environmental issues in Ottawa impact not just natural features, but also contribute to your community and affect your pocketbook.  We will focus on facts, based on local statistics and will share useful tips on what we can do, individually and together, right here and right now, to help Ottawa become a green capital.  In the afternoon, you will choose, from among several proposed activities, one that appeals to you. By putting your newly acquired knowledge into practice, you will concretely experience how connected we truly are to our habitat.

Price: $ 57 (includes lunch) - 6 hours
Location: Credible Edibles, 78 Hinton Avenue North
What to bring: Please wear loose, comfortable clothing (ideally several layers of clothes), as we will spend time indoors and outdoors (rain or shine!). Rubber boots and a raincoat are recommended for outdoor activities.  Bring a notebook and pen if you want to take notes.   Participants will be given take-home information and lunch will be provided.

Feeling Powerful: Re-energizing our lives and communities through energy conservation and empowering lifestyle choices
# of participants: 8 minimum
Description:
When we waste energy and consume more than we really need, we unwittingly participate in an energy system that must grow forever - whatever the social and environmental consequences. However, when we make a conscious decision to treat all energy – be it renewable or non-renewable – as something of great value, even something sacred, then the way we live our lives and participate in our communities changes forever. Have you ever felt the energizing feeling that comes with making choices that cost less, pollute less and reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Have you ever been empowered by joining others who want to use their power to promote positive change?

Find out how many people, groups and towns are using their power to improve their lives and the environment around them through their energy choices. Learn about basic things you can be doing at home, at work and through your purchasing and investment choices. This workshop is for people who want to be challenged, to learn and to share.  You will see photos and video images of best practices and compelling stories from around theworld. Renew your energy. Get empowered.

Winds of Change – A Closer Look at How Changing Our Beliefs and Actions May Reshape Our World
# of participants: 8-12
Description:
Can we truly contribute to turning social conflicts and inequalities, abuse of natural resources, greed and consumption frenzy into social equality and respect for the environment? What responsibility, but also, what power do we have as individuals, citizens and consumers? Can a mere individual bring real change? What does change imply for us? What choices do we have? In this workshop we will review the dominant social, economic, environmental and political trends and their effects on us, our society and the Earth, as well as the emergence of new trends, behaviours and beliefs. This workshop is for people that dare to question their own beliefs, explore change and discover what kind of opportunities and challenges it may imply.
Price: $ 45 (includes supper) 3 hours

Location: Credible Edibles, 78 Hinton Avenue North
What to bring: Pen and paper.
